-= Sounds =-

On this page you will find all sound files used by LOE. You can either download each one manually or all in one big file. We have also included a 'how to' document for some of the most known MUD clients that use MSP triggers.

File Size Description
sounds.zip 5,506,400   Zip file holding all sound files and documentation.
msphowto.txt 3925   Information about how to configure MSP compatible mudcallers
soundlist 25104   The complete sound list can be found here.

Documentation

First of all the sounds must be enabled for your character. You can do this by type config +sound at any time you play. By dooing this your MUD client will be told from where it can download soundfiles (if the MUD client you have supports this, see specific information below) and your character will be sent the sound triggers from the mud when a sound is to be played. You can at anytime turn the sounds off again by typing config -sound.

General Info

  • Create or select an exisiting directory for your sounds.
  • Download some or all files from our webpage. Extract to selected directory.
  • Enable MSP for your client. (See details below).
  • Type config +sound in the game.

zMUD 4.60+

Pictures showed below is taken from zMUD 5.55.

In zMud the MSP triggers can be turned on by selecting View>Preferences>Sounds... from the menu.

Click on the [+] infront of the Sounds selection and pick MSP General. Check out Enable MUD Sound Protocol and zMUD will be all set (Note that zMUD versions before 5.x is somewhat different, You will have to selecte the MSP tab instead, and the view is somewhat different. These earlier versions of zMUD does not support auto-downloading).

You can also check Enable sound downloading if you want this option. The default URL path will be automaticaly set when the config +sound option is used. Do NOT uncheck Allow inline MSP. The sound triggers will not work without it.

All sounds can manually be altered under the MSP Sounds selection, however the different sound triggers will not show unless you have recieved the trigger from the mud at least once. We recomend that you leave this as it is unless you have trouble getting anyone of them to work. We have actually experienced some small bugs here. zMUD will automaticaly try use the Sounds directory located in your current mud setting directory. It would be best to use this directory for your sounds. That way you will not have to specify it. For more help on how zMUD 5.x handles MSP see zMUD's own help files or download the full documention in a readable text file from zMUD's homepage.

Mudmaster 2.6.0 Beta+

Configuring Mudmaster is pretty easy. Simply type /MSP <sounddirectory> where soundirectory is the directory you downloaded the sound files to. Then you type /MSP on and you are all set. Mudmaster does not support auto downloading.

AmiMUD 2.10+

I have not tested AmiMUD with MSP myself, simply because I do not have an Amiga to test with. But the following is what info I could get out of the help files.

To use MSP with AmiMUD you will need the following:

  • AmigaOS 3.0 or later version.
  • AmiMUD 2.10 or later version. (Registered)
  • wav.datatype installed.
  • GMPlay 1.2 or later version installed.
  • gmplay: correctly installed.
  • modules/msp must be included in AmiMUD configuration.

AmiMud can not as far as I can tell auto-download sound files, and I am not sure if the sounds must be put in the AmiMUD directory or if another path may be specified. However if an MSP trigger is sent to AmiMUD and the sound is not found it will show you a list of these sounds when you exit AmiMUD.

If you are an AmiMUD user please feel free to share whatever information you might have with us.

Other MUD Clients

If you have any other MUD clients but still want to use the sound system you must manually set everything up. This is not hard but it might take you some time.

Your MUD client must however have trigger and gag support for this to work well. Let's say you are sent the MSP trigger !!SOUND(level P=99 T=info). All you really need to do is to make your MUD client play the level.wav file and gag(hide) this line so it don't show. Should you get a MSP trigger like !!MUSIC(bartune T=social) the file that should be played would be a midi file, in this case bartune.mid.

If you need further assistance you can try mudmail Mephisto with your questions.
