A Welcome

*NOTE* Capitalized words are keywords for helpfiles on LoE

First of all, may we, the staff of the realms, formally welcome you to Legends of Excalibur, or Loe for short, or as we know it, Home.

You will find that this is a wonderous land, with many places to explore, strange characters to meet and adventures to be had along the way. You will at first find it strange, not knowing your way around, but soon you will know where those important places are by traveling the roads and discovering new and exciting ways to continue your journeys.

The main aim is to have fun. The worlds outside of these realms can be very stressful at times, so while you are here, forget your troubles elsewhere and just have a good time. We want everyone to have fun and for that reason, there are RULES. Most are common sense, but all are written so that everyone can feel fairly treated and happy.

In these realms we like ROLEPLAY, that is if you are a certain race, you would learn to act according to the attitudes of that race (ie. Elves are commonly stately and graceful, whereas Dwarves are gruff and sensitive about their size). We know nothing of the outside worlds and find it strange when adventures have methods of telling the TIME other than sundials. By choosing to visit these realms, you are also making the choice to respect other adventurers and respect ROLEPLAY. Look at the page about communications to help you further.

Now read on and remember at all times......Have Fun !!!

Help with reading your score

Your SCORE is basicaly all about you, healthwise and wealthwise.

First of all type score, you will see various attributes about you, some are self explanatory, others a tad more complicated.

Level = Is the level of your experience. You start at 2 and can reach as high as 500. At level 150, you will DUALQUEST and at level 300, TRIQUEST.

Age = This is your age, you start at age 17 and advance from there.

HP = Your health points, when it is at 0, you are dead so don't let it go too low. The first figure is how high it should be, the second figure, how high it actually is, so if it's low, go and rest, preferably by a healer.

Mana = All players need this to cast spells, some spells will use more mana than others, if it's at 0, you won't be able to cast.

Move = Your movement, if this reaches 0 you wont be able to move.

ALIGN = Good, Neutral or Evil This may effect what weapons and armor you can use.

XP Needed = How many exprience points you need to your next level.

HITROLL and DAMROLL = The higher these are the better. HITROLL increases your chances of hiting your victim and DAMROLL increases the damage caused.

Languages = These are the languages that you can currently speak.

CLASS = This is similar to an occupation, it determines which skills and spells you have.

RACE = This is what type of creature you are, Giant, High-Elf, Pixie, to name a few. Your Race can affect your stats. Trolls are strong, Pixies are intelligent and High-Elves are obnoxious.

Armor = The lower this figure, the better.

Prac = Your PRACTICE points, used to practice Skills and Spells.

TRAIN = Your TRAIN points, used to train your stats.

Item = First number shows how many items are currently in your inventory, second number shows the maximum number of items allowed.

WEIGHT = First number shows the current weight of items you carry/possess, second number shows the maximum weight of items allowed.

Quest = Amount of QUEST points gained. To learn more about this read HELP QUEST

WIMPY = You will attempt to flee when your hp reaches this figure.

FAVOR = Sacrifice corpses, get favor points, but only if you have a DEITY.

STYLE = Your current fighting style.

GOLD, BANK, Plat = Your current financial state. You need money in the bank to use AUCTION and you need Plat to buy Immortal SERVICES.

Autoexit, Autosac, Autoloot, Autogold = See Help CONFIG to set these.

DEITY = Your current DEITY.

A guide to Stats

STATS are your vital statistics. Just as you would carry heavy objects to gain weight, you can TRAIN your STATS to make them better. Certain STATS do certain things. Type SCORE to see your present STATS.

STR is your strength. This determines how much weight you can carry and also helps you hit harder.

INT is your intelligence. It allows you to use less PRACTICE points when you PRACTICE a skill and also helps determine how much mana you get each level. Useful if you are a magic user.

WIS is your wisdom. This is probably the most important to everyone as the higher your WIS the more practice points you receive each LEVEL. If you have 10 practice points, you may "train practice" to convert 10 practice points to a TRAIN point and therefore enabling you to TRAIN better STATS. WIS is also used, along with INT to determine mana (m) points per level.

DEX is dexterity. This will help you gain more movement (mv) points per level. It will help stop you from getting tired on those long journeys.

CON is constitution. This will give you more hit/health points (hp) per level.

CHA is your charisma. This affects the way people view you, shopkeepers especially. The higher charisma you have, the cheaper things will be because the shopkeepers will want to be nicer to you.

To TRAIN your stats, find the trainer for your area and they will be able to help you.

Help with skills and spells

As we venture through life, we not only gain experience, but we also gain SKILLS and for the more magically talented amonst us, SPELLS also.

Some SKILLS and SPELLS, once learned, are automatic. Skills like AVOID, we would try to automatically AVOID being hit if we were attacked.

With other SKILLS and SPELLS, we have to decide when to use them. BLESS, for instance. CAST 'BLESS' <TARGET>, would be how you could BLESS someone, if you were lucky enough to have that spell and if they had done something nice, but that is up to your choosing.

SLIST is the command to see which spells and skills you have, or will have when you get to be an experienced adventurer. When it is time for you to learn a new skill/spell, you first have to reach the experience LEVEL of that skill/spell. You then need to seek out the practice yard in your hometown in order to practice your spells/skills. You can also view the SLIST from any other CLASS by typing SLIST <CLASSNAME> (where CLASSNAME is the three letter abbreviation for the class).

Each Skill/Spell can only be practiced to a very basic level, to improve your efficency, you will have to go out into the Realms and use it.

Most skills/spells will never reach 100% efficency, after all, we are only HUMAN, PIXIE, RAKSHASHA..etc, with all our little faults, broken wings and....Rakshasha's......well whatever they have that isn't perfect. *shrug*

Communication in a nutshell

There are many ways to talk to your fellow adventurers. These are the most common ones (to use them just type the main command, for example, SAY followed by your message) (Talking to people in the same room)

SAY Might I have a moment of your time, great King? SAY Of course you can, kind young one, what troubles you? Anyone in the same room will see this.

(Talking to someone who can be anywhere in the realms. The command is TELL followed by the person's name you wish to talk to.)

TELL <Player1> Could you help me for a minute, wonderful Knight? TELL <Knight> Absolutely, I'd be glad to help someone so polite.

Only you and the person you are sending the TELL to will see this. They are probably the most common forms of communication. The others work in much the same way.

WHISPER - This one has to be done to a specific person. It will only be heard by that person, but everyone will know you are whispering.

YELL - This is similar to say, but it will be heard in all the area. Type WHERE to see who is in your area.

GTELL - If you are grouped, only the members of the group will see this.

CC and OT - Clanchat and Orderchat. If you are a member of a CLAN or ORDER, everyone in the same clan or order will see this.

There are 3 global channels. They are channels that can be seen by everyone.

NEWBIECHAT - This is the the first channel you should use to seek help. Things like : NEWBIE Where is the practice room?

OOC - This is the Out Of Character channel. Use this for anything that you want to say or ask. You won't see this channel if you have the config option RP set.

CHAT - This is the global channel for saying or asking anything when in RP mode. There are rules about what you can and cant say on this channel. You will only see this if you have the config option RP set.

With all CHANNELS, there are rules about what you can and cant say. You are also able to turn channels off. For instance, if you have a greedy player continually sending you a TELL asking for spells, you can CHANNELS -TELL, this will stop any TELL messages from coming to you. CHANNELS +TELL will turn it back on.

How Others See You

As you wander through the realms, you will no doubt see quite a few other adventurers as well. Each and every one of these people can see certain things about you. To teach these people about yourself you are provided with three very important information giving tools. These tools are your title, bio (short for biography), and desc (short for description).

TITLE
Your title is something that people see after your name on the who- list, which everybody may type 'who' to view. After you leave the authorization chamber you will have to wait until level 5 to set your title, but before then it is advisable to read 'help title' so you know what a good title looks like. A common problem with titles is that they can be squished right up against your name on the who- list if you type it wrong. This usually only happens when you use color in your title, so to prevent it from happening you must add a space between the first color code (see 'help colors') and the first word of your title. Remember, your title is meant to be a description of your position in the realms, not just a sentence after your name.

BIO
Your biography, or bio for short, is your characters past history, usually set in a time before your adventure begins. All characters start out at the age of 18 years old, so bios should not include any references about you claiming to be older than you are. As you grow older in the game you can always add more to your bio about your experiences. To make a professional looking bio, try to keep from making it about what you (as your character) look like. That should be reserved for your desc (see below). Other things that make your bio look good are color, correct spelling, and correct grammar. For help with those, check www.m-w.com.

DESC
Your description, or desc for short, is a description of what you (as your character) look like. Descriptions are probably one of the most fun part about making up your character. The easiest way is to imagine what your character would look like in your mind, including clothing, hair, body size, all the way down to eye color. Keep in mind that your description is about you and you alone, there- fore, the word 'you' (referring to anybody who looks at you), should not be used. Always remember, as you write your description, that your character has a race, class, height, and weight. Race and Class are chosen by you, so in your description make sure to note any features memorable to your race: i.e. a Thri-Kreen has 6 arms, which is something that could be mentioned in a desc; a Mul has no hair, so hair color is not a factor there. Class may also be an issue when determining your character. If you chose Scout as your profession, then your character may look more rugged than a Cleric or Mage, and may even be carrying a bow and arrow, as is customary for Scouts. Height and weight are randomly generated for each character. To find out what your height and weight are, you may look at yourself by typing 'look self'. If your character weighs a lot and is very tall, which is likely if you chose one of the various races of Giants, then make sure that you do not write that your character is skinny and short, as Giants are not. As with writing your bio, a good desc will have proper spelling, grammar, and color.

Hopefully this introduction to titles, bios, and descs has helped you, and you will be able to easily create each for your new character. Keep in mind that you must have a bio of 50 words or more, as well as a desc of decent length, by the time you reach Level 40, and remember, every character is unique in both looks and how you play them. Have fun!

A beginners guide to levelling

I suppose the main aim of every adventurer is to gain levels. Although exploring, collecting equipment, potions and delicious food items are all important pastimes, at the end of the day, all these things make levelling easier. There is, of course, good and bad ways of levelling. Here are some good tips to make levelling safer.

Use the command AREAS. This will tell you the zones in your continent and the suggested level. When you find a place you wish to visit, for instance, Solace, HELP AREA SOLACE will tell you a little about the place. The suggested levels have to be taken with a certain level of warning, cause if you are a well equiped tough WARRIOR, grouped with others, you will be able to fight in a higher area than if you are a badly equiped lone CLERIC.

Buy maps. The Map shop is 3 south, west and North from Camelot temple.

When you first meet your victim. use the command CONSIDER. For instance, "con fido". This should more or less tell you what the chances are of a win or a defeat.

GROUP with other adventurers, CLERICs may not be very strong, but they can HEAL, WARRIORs can fight good, but have to REST without someone to HEAL them.

Finding Help when needed

From time to time we all need a little help. Sometimes it may be that you are just plain lost, hungry and are in need of a pie. Other times it may be more serious, you may be constantly being SUMMONed by a nasty creature intent on killing you.

What do you do?

At first you can use NEWBIECHAT, thats for general help up to you reaching experience level 5. You could ask advice from someone in the same room as you. A good place to find people is either at the temple in Camelot, RECALL to get there, or S and E, E, will take you to the Grunting Boar Inn, a very popular place to hang out. The beer is good, but very potent.

You could send a TELL to someone. KNIGHTs are there to help, but they are not there to give you equipment or spellups. If you are really stuggling though send a tell to a KNIGHT, if you don't see a KNIGHT on the WHO list, try asking someone else that may be in the realms. Again, constantly sending TELLs to people asking for equipment, spellups or directions will annoy them. You are here to have fun, the best fun is to explore and find stuff for yourself.

Joining a group of similar LEVEL adventurers is also very useful. You can ask on OOC Level 14 seeks 2 others to group with. Or whatever level you are.

But the best source of help is the HELP notes. Type COMMAND. The list you see is many of the words you can use. Each word should have HELP notes.
For instance : GET
Type help get
You will see how to use the command GET and other similar commands. Also very often it will suggest you look at other useful commands, in this case EMPTY.

If you have a serious matter that you need to discuss with an IMMORTAL you can PRAY.
For instance PRAY I have just been attacked by a player and I am not PKILL.
*IMPORTANT NOTE: Only use PRAY if it is an urgent matter, abuse of PRAY is a serious offence and will not be taken lightly.

If you have something that you need to tell an IMMORTAL but it's not a life or death matter, you can send them a personal mail. help IMMS first to see who would look after that particular problem. You can send a personal mail to anyone in the Realms.

If you need to ask a general question, through a note, post it on the general board. Boards can be found down from most temples. See HELP MAIL and HELP NOTE to use these boards.

The Rules and Regulations

All places have RULES and the realms are no exception. RULES are written to ensure that people playing here, has a fun time without being hassased or feel that others may have an unfair advantage. In an Ideal world, there would be no need to have rules, but unfortunately, not everyone likes to "play fair" and will try and cheat the system unless a specific rule has been written to stop them doing so. But if a bug has been discovered that enables you to get money/eq/levels or anything else that you think you really shouldn't be entitled to, it is your duty to report this.

But all in all, the rules have been written and have just about covered every eventualitiy.

HELP RULES and HELP RULES2 should be read very carefully as using the excuse that you didn't know will not be accepted. Also read HELP MULTIPLAYING and HELP QUEST, these also are important.

If there are any new rules or important information, these will always be posted on the Announcement Board. It is located at RECALL, D and N.

If you don't understand a Rule always ask or mail a Knight, if they can't answer you, they will find out from an Imm and maybe re-write the rule to make things clearer.

Always remember, theres no substitute for common sense when it comes to understanding the rules. All rules are based on this.

A Guide to dealing with Immortals

Immortals are the people who make these realms run. They make things and overall take care of everyone, providing this environment for us to enjoy. They are always here to help, however it is important to realize that most of your concerns often, can be handled by other mortals and Knights. Some helpful hints to dealing with the Immortals are:

1: Only use PRAY for emergencies. What is an emergency you may ask? You are in minus hit points, someone is cheating, someone is illegally pkilling you, etc. Needing spellups, minor questions, etc are not emergencies.
2: The immortals have mentioned they want us to become strong and independant. We dont do that by asking them for every little thing. Their time is valuable, so instead of asking for spellups and equipment, try and explore either by yourself of with a group of other similar level adventurers. There are lots of fine pieces of equipment and powerful potions out there just waiting to be found.
3: Immortals may be harsh sometimes but it tends to be for the good of all. They support a roleplaying environment *read help rp* and do not stand for profanity, abuse, or sexual harrasment of any kind. Please respect others and their space. Some people roleplay some do not. If you are a victim of something that makes you feel uncomfortable, or unsafe...please tell a knight as soon as possible. We, as well as the immortals, want everyone to have as much fun as we ourselves do here.
